K-dramas made me try these 3 Korean Foods
Meals are a huge part of drama and Koreans know how to make a mean meal spread packed with a variety of beautifully presented side dishes. The meals always look tasty and colourful. Oftentimes, the scenes where these meals are being devoured seem like carefully executed advertisements. Well, I’m definitely buying. I have tried some of these meals and I’m excited to share some of these food adventures with you.
Ramyeon
Ramyeon is the Japanese-inspired version of instant ramen in Korea. It can also be referred to as a comfort meal. Watching the characters in Kdrama’s eat makes one
salivate. The large portion of it that fills their chopsticks, the way they lean close to the meal and suck the long line of ramyeon while making noises. How they chew and after successfully getting it down their throat, they down the sauce that is left and let out a sound of satisfaction. Your taste bud is piqued.
I wanted ramyeon but there was no hassle-free way to get it in my country so I tried this hack.
I got instant noodles and put them in a pot of boiling water alongside the seasoning it came with then poured a large amount of ground pepper. I usually do more garnishing to my noodles but my aim was to make it look exactly like in the drama even if I didn’t know what it tasted like. I didn’t want the noodles soggy so once it had softened a bit, I poured it into a curved ceramic plate for *effect* alongside the sauce.
Beef wrapped in Veggies
For starters, I’m not a fan of vegetables but the characters in K-drama’s make meals look so interesting. There’s a meetup and a character is using chopsticks to put small pieces of meat into a small wrap of vegetables. When they eat it, you can feel the juices and the crunchiness fill their mouth. I was at a restaurant for my birthday and I was served veggies with my pasta alongside huge chunks of spicy beef. I put the beef in the vegetable, did a nice wrap and ate it. They blended so well and just complimented each other. At that moment it felt like I was in Seoul. I forgot that I didn’t find vegetables tasty.
Spicy Chicken and Beer
If you’re a beer or chicken lover and you’re curious or looking for new ways to enjoy them, you should try this combination. You can use chicken wings or chicken feet which is more of a favourite for most of the characters in Korean dramas. They
say the best way to eat chicken is with Soju (Korean alcohol) or alcohol is better taken with chicken. If you’re having a bad day or you’re meeting up with friends or you just want to relax, this is a good go-to meal. I tried it at a party my parents hosted. It was an unconscious experiment actually but my oh my did it taste good. This is the universe giving you a sign to spice up your food life.
